 Continuous Flotation
More information
In order to get close to a simulation or reproduction of results of an industrial flotation circuit, usually a series of batch flotation tests are performed in small scale. These tests are normally known as the cycle test. They can be performed in an open circuit, but most frequently in a closed circuit. They include a rougher stage, with or without scavenger, two or three cleaner stages, with or without regrinding of rougher concentrate and recirculation of cleaning tails to previous stages, respectively.
This tedious operation is only useful if a stable state is achieved, in terms of mass and law of final concentrate, after repeating the cycle many times, generally after five or six cycles. Once this has been finished, the corresponding calculations must be done considering a series of masses and intermediate laws; there are various calculation methods that include the possibility of simplifying the test with the method of split factors.
If we consider that between tests, one must ensure the homogeneity of the mineral pulp, unavoidable differences in the “hand” of the operator taking out the froth and sometimes the substitution of the operator, it is concluded that a flotation test in a continuous arrangement has huge advantages in reproducibility, time and economy.
Currently, EDEMET has the technology to operate the EDEMET Laboratory Cells in a continuous and stable way, organized in flexible circuits; being able to easily imitate different flowsheets. This equipment permits to evaluate the process continuously in a laboratory scale, with a sample amount similar to the one used in cycle tests, but getting faster and metallurgical more reliable results. Besides, it is possible to observe other characteristics of the process before performing a pilot test, such as the stability of the froth in regime, the effect of the process water quality, etc. Therefore, higher technical reliability, time saving and easiness to evaluate different flowsheets in case of new projects make the EDEMET Laboratory Flotation Cell, the best choice for your facilities.
